More Than a Game
Just a simple game creating something travel rarely announces but often offers — a moment of genuine human exchange.
We didn’t come looking for a chess match.
We were simply walking through the village — taking in the rhythm of the day, following quiet paths without expecting anything in particular.
And then we noticed a chessboard.
A few curious moves became a game. A game became a gathering.
People slowed down. A few smiles appeared. Someone stepped closer to watch. Another offered a suggestion. Before long, a small circle had formed around black and white squares.
Strategies were tested. Laughter slipped between moves. Friendly rivalries appeared and disappeared.
For a while, strangers became teammates, opponents, and companions.
There was no shared language.
No itinerary had planned for this.
No activity list had promised connection.
Just a simple game creating something travel rarely announces but often offers — a moment of genuine human exchange.
Because sometimes connection does not arrive through conversation.
Sometimes it happens through gestures. Through curiosity. Through sitting across from someone and understanding each other without needing many words.
And perhaps that is what stays with us.
Not the places everyone knows.
But the unexpected moments — across a chessboard, in a village you had never imagined visiting, with people you had never expected to meet.
These moments unfold during our Wilderness & Tribes Nagaland Journey, where the most meaningful experiences are often the ones no one planned for. ♟️🌿
